Angleščina je jezik z več kot 170.000 besedami, ki je poln prevzetih besed in sposojenk; je jezik, ki je nastal iz skupka drugih jezikov in vsebuje vse od arabskih pa do vikinških izrazov ter obilico francoskih besed. Morda je mešanje kultur v jeziku razlog, da so govorci angleščine s pridom vse te besede še dodatno mešali med sabo in ustvarili množico novih izrazov, ki smešno zvenijo, poleg tega pa imajo tudi zabaven pomen.

1. Borborygm, množina: borborygmi
Klokotanje v črevesju. Uporabljeno v stavku: Sir, the guests are trying to listen to your speech but your borborygmi are louder than your words.
2. Bumfuzzle
Popolnoma zmesti nekoga: The Trump victory left the world bumfuzzled.
3. Flibbertigibbet
Nesmisel; tudi oseba, ki preveč govori – čenča: I did my best to escape that flibbertigibbet – he kept on following me at the party, and constantly talked nonsense.
4. Fuddy-duddy
Starokopitna oseba, brez smisla za humor, ki se izraža na zelo pompozen način: Quit being such a fuddy-duddy! The times have changed!
5. Gardyloo!
Opozorilo, ki ga nekdo zavpije, preden z določene višine zlije nečisto vodo. In Scotland, the servants would yell “Gardyloo!” and then throw the waste water through the window.
6. Hodgepodge

8. Kerfuffle
Nemirna, celo nekoliko smešna situacija, t.i. “džumbus”: The kerfuffle started immediately after the teacher left the schoolroom.
9. Namby-pamby
Šibka, neodločna oseba: He would make a good leader if he weren’t such a namby-pamby.
10. Skedaddle
Na hitro oditi; pobrisati jo, ucvreti jo: As soon as her mother was done shouting at her, Mary skeddadled out to play with her friends some more.
